In Pursuit of Happiness? .... just be a child

If I ask you to be a child again, would you be able to do it. I know everyone wants to become a child again but is it so simple to rewind conscious state of mind? All this started on a pleasant Sunday afternoon, my child was playing in porch and I was sitting aloof and enjoying view of 100% unadulterated innocent happiness on face of my child, when I thought aren’t these best years of life?  So normal, right! But then I realized something which created paradigm shift in me. Everything happens for a reason. So if there are children in this world, it’s for a reason. As a child we start our life, it must be for a reason. We can notice pure joy and happiness in all children that must be for some reason. So I fell into a loop of thoughts and reached to what I am going to share as part of this post.
Nature / Creator / God / Almighty / Supreme / Science whoever we believe create children, might have created all species directly with adulthood instead of starting as a child, as a calf, as a cub etc. But no we start as child. Just by looking at an infant, we can feel pure joy which we may or may not feel with all adults. I guess that’s because these are clues for us to uncover secret of happiness.  So now let’s understand basic differences between an Adult and an Infant which is reason why an Infant enjoys pure joy and an adult wont.

  • ·         Unlike an adult, an infant won’t give up on something.
    •     An adult if trying to achieve something, suppose for example, an adult decided to appear for an exam. He or she, if fails usually start reasoning that I had this obstacle, I faced that difficulty.
    •     Unlike this, if an infant is trying to crawl or walk, won’t give up until they do so. They fall, rise again and try again.
    •     An infant after failing is not resentful neither is boasting when successful.
    •     Following instinct / will / omen is one of the sources for inner peace.

  • ·         An infant do not expect anyone to mold or adjust to him/her.
    •     As an adult, humans like someone who has similar mindset.
    •     Adults expect people around them to either mold, adjust or support them.
    •     Few examples are Wife expects money, brothers expect their portion of property, friends expect support, people expects success etc.
    •     An infant on other hand does not understand expectations.
    •     Detaching ourselves from expectations is required.

  • ·         An infant do not carry a chip on his/her shoulder.
    •     Adults usually hold grudges against someone they dislike or against someone who opposed them or against someone who ditched them.
    •     An infant on other hand does not hold grudges similar to these, suppose a child wanted a chocolate and you snatched it from him/her, he/she will cry for time being but will behave normal after sometime.
    •     Practicing forgiveness is important.

  • ·         An infant does not care about view of people around.
    •     When an adult gets an idea, he/she normally does not try it, because of various reasons. Reasons like, it’s risky, and what if I fail? What will people say? What would my family say? Will this jeopardize my family’s convenience? What will society think about me? Will I be accepted by society?
    •     An infant just knows that he/she wants to do something and they do it. They do not care if they get hurt while doing it. They do not care if they get scolding / beating for the same later. They do not care what their family or any religion or any caste or any god says. They are like die-hard fans of Nike “Just Do it”.
    •     Following your dreams is strong step to take.

This might be debatable that if everyone follows their desires, it may jeopardize world’s peace etc etc. I believe that this world has always been working on equilibrium since the age we used to live in caves, so somehow it will attain equilibrium. When we used to be in caves, nature was all good and everything used to happen at time everything was in specific pattern. As we started evolving technology, nature shifted itself to adjust equilibrium, temperature rose so ice melted. Every cause will have effect to maintain the equation of equilibrium; anyway that is what I feel.

You are welcome to add / suggest anything I might have missed in above observations of behaviors of a child.

Thanks for reading and a happy new year in advance.
