Planning "The Martian" way....

Today 7-Oct-2015, me and six of my colleagues watched the Martian. When we booked tickets, I thought what might be so special about this movie. It must be just another Sci-Fi movie.
However just within mere three hours my view about the same changed to exact opposite.

Martian is based on a novel by Andy Weir. Story revolves around efforts of an astronaut "Mark Watney" to stay alive on MARS. Story of movie is pretty simple however the way it has been presented is awesome.

What I have personally learnt from the movie is
  • One of the most important quality of a leader is to stay calm in any situation and think out all possible options, choose best practical option keeping in mind calculated risk and reach to a firm decision within minimum time.
  • Another thing to learn is what Mark Watney explains his students at the closing scene of movie "No one will support you out there and you will have many problems however you need to solve one problem and then the another".
Actually that is what I liked about the story, you can achieve best from worse, provided you cut down distractions and devote yourself task at hand.

So dear reader , what are you waiting for lets follow below mentioned steps and see how strong is our will and how far can we go?
  • Realize that you have entered this planet alone and will leave it alone. You didn't brought anything with you and will not carry anything while leaving. [ My personal favorite advice is Forget about future, forget the concept of Karma, Moksha, heaven hell . . . . who knows?]. As soon as you realize this you will be able to empathize character of Mark Watney.
  • List down all problems and strengths.
  • Perform a SWOT analysis (How much stuff I already have? How much I need? What are available options? What are odds and are there any alternates?)
  • Prioritize your problems (This is a tricky step, don't get too greedy here and try to do 10 things at a time. Remember one problem one priority number. 1 to top most priority decreasing later on to n....)
  • Concentrate on problem 1, break down problem 1 into smaller problems ==> Think for solution to each smaller problem ==> Its better if we could keep a backup plan if things don't proceed as planned. ==> Start working.
  • Problem 1 is resolved, revisit SWOT and problem list ==> Update if required ==> Repeat for remaining problems one at a time.
  • Remember during the process your monkey mind will try to divert you to something else, don't listen, don't give up . . . . the fact that you have read this long is proof that you have desire to achieve something great . . . . . may be I don't know you but still I can tell you this . . . . . You can do this provided you stay focused . . . .
