Information
Technology (IT) has blosommed in India in past decade or so. As being part
of IT, my life usually get churned out in late working hours to meet the
deadlines (and avoiding myself being dead), sometimes working weekends
(with my wife shouting on me for having no personal life). However IT is
not all about burning out at both ends but it also has few (more
towards fewest) advantages. One of the best advantage for me being a
travel lover is that we (IT people) get to travel round the world,
domestic or international whichever it may be, we get to live in posh
hotels and enjoy various cultures and foods and drinks.....Yummy.
I
am writing this blog entry during one of my such visit to airport
waiting lobbies. A burning query has inspired me to write this entry and
I hope reader will appreciate the thought. I will be more than happy,
if even one of my reader change (positively off course) after reading
this entry. So lets get our story rolling . . . . . .
My
company got a nice assignment. Even being kinda dork I was lucky enough
to get into the onsite team. Yup! I am going to enjoy a beautiful
journey to a very beautiful international location. My flight was
scheduled to fly around the time of sunrise, but being an extra cautious
creation of god, I booked a cab at 10:30 PM on prior eve and reached
airport by 11:30 PM itself. As being too early at the airport, now I
found myself standing outside the airport with my huge luggage. My best
pastime being people watch, so I started noticing behavioral patterns of
everyone around me, when I suddenly noticed a guy. He was eating
something from a plastic bag and has this vibe that must have been from a
well to do background. The way he was carrying his persona also
suggested that he must be on some sophisticated white collar job. To my
surprise this guy suddenly looked here and there, then dropped the
plastic bag from his hand on road outside the airport departure gates.
Bag had some sticky brown substance like peanut butter. I was watching
him whole time and now he noticed my facial expression of "What the
F**k?", in return he gave me a stern look as "WHAT? Do you want me to
feel sorry for that?" and he shamelessly walked away.
After
few hours, I noticed myself inside the airport, waiting for airlines to
open the heavenly counters to check in my luggage. Two guys came and
sat next to me. Then one of them politely asked, "Maaf kijiye, par kya
aap mujhe ye form bharne me madat kar sakte hai?" (Could you help me
filling this form?). He was labor traveling to Riyadh. Next thing I
remember is that I was surrounded by 8-10 people, who are willing to get
their forms filled? All of these people were traveling to Riyadh as
well, for various blue collar jobs. I filled immigration forms for 4-5
people and asked others to fill their forms similar to ones already
filled by me. After few moments I noticed one of them standing up. He
was going to Riyadh for being Plumber. He was chewing gum and not wanted
to throw the gum. He was looking here and there. Look on his face
reminded me of the guy, I met outside the airport. I was expecting
something similar to happen with the chewing gum as well, however to the
contrary, this guy took out a piece of paper, wrapped chewing gum and
threw it in dustbin.
Few
hours of waiting at airport and I was burning with only one query, who
is real literate? US(White Collars) or Them (Blue Collars)?
This story was just about keeping cleanliness at public places but I sincerely request my readers to retrospect and understand ill habits they carry (let it be as small as not switching off the lights while leaving house, hotel or office). Try to just avoid at least one ill habit from today onwards. (I am requesting to GIVE UP JUST ONE BAD HABIT). Even a small change at personal level may trigger enormous change at nation level.
Thanks in advance. Adios.
