Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is not just an anime, its much more. Series reveals truth of life.
Story is about journey of Elric brothers(Edward & Alphonse) to regain their true bodies using something called Philosopher's stone.
Story is written in way that if persuaded properly teaches us very important life lesson.
All is one, one is all . . . . .
Story begins with meeting of Van Hohenheim, a slave in land of Xerxes with shadow-like creature known as Homunculus created of his own blood.
During their interactions it is revealed that Homunculus was created out of desire of king to obtain immortality.
This shows greedy nature of human. Humans have this unfulfilled thirst of desire also called as greed to obtain something that they don't have.
It many of the times give birth to problems, similar to story of this anime. Homunculus trick king of Xerxes & Hohenheim, obtains philosopher stone and a human form. During process, he destroys kingdom of Xerxes to create extreme powerful Philosopher's stone which gets divided into Homunculus and Hoheinheim.
Story revolves around lives of Hohenheim's children (Edward & Alphonse). Edward Elric is state alchemist and referred as genius by his younger brother Alphonse.
Alphonse is stronger in two, always winning combat against Edward. Trisha Elric, mother of Elric brothers is very loving & kind women.
Her nature reveals her love towards Hohenheim and she as mother always praise her two children to perform their best. Winry is family friend of Edward and Alphonse.
Edward Elric is emotionally very attached to his mother and detests his fathers for leaving her while they were young. However Alphonse Elric on many occasion reveals his attachment towards father (Van Hohenheim).
Edward is very protective of his younger brother Alphonse.
Edward loves Winry but never dare to propose her the same. Scene where Edward convey his feelings to Winry is also pretty well directed.
Comparing analogy to real life, in a family always some child have deep attachment to his mother while another will have affection towards father. Also affectionate bond shown between two brothers is adorable and reminds me of my bond with my brother. Scene of Edward proposing Winry, reminds me of my nature.
When mother(Trisha Elric) dies, Elric Brothers perform a taboo of Human Transmutation. But process doesn't go as expected and Edward looses his one arm and a leg where as Alphonse looses his body.
By sacrificing his body, Edward affixes soul of Alphonse to an armour. This part of series shows love of Edward towards his younger brother.
This part of series shows how a human is attached to his family (loved ones). Human in sorrow & despair are willing to do whatever it takes to regain an equilibrium.
But most of times actions taken in such sorrow lead us to wrong path. This part of series reminds me of myself, when i thought of something stupid like that back in my life. When beloved people leave you, they leave behind empty space which cannot be healed and we have to carry it along. When people leave they become part of memories and are reminded again & again many times in life. Similar to Elric brothers in episode 1, when staying for night at Hughes, remember their mother for Quiche.
Further when Edward and Alphonse leave their hometown they burn down their house as part of their resolution so that they know that there is nowhere to go back to.
When Edwards reaches Gate of truth (Similar to what we human refer to pearly gates, gateway to heaven or hell), he meet a figure which explain itself as
"I'm an what you folks call world, in other words universe. In other words God. In other words Truth. In other words Eternity. In other words One and I'm you."
This statement is pretty similar to what we learn in various religions,"God is everywhere, God is in everyone and everything."
Luke 17:21 (Pharisees are asking when the Kingdom of God will come..) "Neither shall they say, lo here or lo there for, behold, the Kingdom of God is within you."

During their journey to find Philosopher's stone, Elric Brothers cross roads with Homunculi team (Greed, Envy, Sloth, Lust, Gluttony, Wrath, Pride) generated from body of Humunculi (made of Van Hohenheim's blood) called as Father.
Father is main antagonist of series and he wants to be most powerful creature of world, he hate humans. He remind me of all those who tried take over the world with their power to become mightiest of all.
People like Genghis Khan, Alexander, Napoleon. In the series, fact is very beautifully presented that its not seven sins that stop us from being perfect, its us who make that choice. Father in order to become perfect being, separates his seven sins from his body. Further he devours god to become mightiest. But when power gets out of control it destroys beholder.
Series also shows different walks of life via medium of various characters. Roy Mustang, colonel in Military is an ambitious but kind heart person. He love & protects his team, he trust them and wish to make world better place with them. His team also trusts him and back him up in his decisions even in grave dangers.
This part of series is somewhat unnatural, people in real life usually trust others but others under influence of seven sin (mostly greed or lust) usually break that trust. In past I also trusted many, I used to fight for them but repeatedly I have received back stabbings. But not sure why this heart still have hope that some day will it be part of team like Mustang's.
Roy has also been shown loyal to his duties. He is very loyal to his friends, when he come to know that Envy killed Hughes, he become angry and burn envy till an extent of death. Envy is saved by Edward, Riza and Scar at this moment but envy kill himself.
Armstrong siblings also show one face of human life. Olivia sees her brother as weak soul cause he ran away from ishbal war. Similar to some families where one person is compared to others and one is marked as advanced than other.
Death of Each each sin reminds me of punishments for each sin:
Pride :
In Anime: Pride dies because of Kimbalee and Edward, as pride tries to take over body of Edward. Pride was not proud of his body and was trying to take over Edward's body so Kimbalee interferes and Edward defeats Pride.
Punishment as in religious books : The proud are purged by carrying giant stones on their backs, unable to stand up straight (Cantos X through XII).
This teaches the sinner that pride puts weight on the soul and it is better to throw it off.
Envy:
In Anime: Envy is defeated by Mustang, by burning his eyes.
Punishment as in religious books : The envious are purged by having their eyes sewn shut and wearing clothing that makes the soul indistinguishable from the ground (Cantos XIII through XV). This is akin to a falconer's sewing the eyes of a falcon shut in order to train it.
God is the falconer and is training the souls not to envy others and to direct their love towards Him.
Wrath:
In Anime : Dies with hands of Scar (human), whom homunculi think of inferior species with both hands chopped.
Punishment as in religious books : The wrathful are purged by walking around in acrid smoke (Cantos XV through XVII). Souls correct themselves by learning how wrath has blinded their vision, impeding their judgement.
Sloth :
In Anime : Sloth dies in hands of Major Armstrong. Sloth is shown as powerful homunculi but has been shown as fastest homunculi. Dies while saying; dying is such a drag but living too is a drag.
Punishment as in religious books : The slothful are purged by continually running (Cantos XVIII and XIX). Those who were slothful in life can only purge this sin by being zealous in their desire for penance.
Greed:
In Anime : Greed is shown as greedy to win all world. But somehow before his end understands what he really wanted.
Punishment as in religious books : The avaricious and prodigal are purged by lying face-down on the ground, unable to move (Cantos XIX through XXI). Excessive concern for earthly goods—whether in the form of greed or extravagance—is punished and purified. The sinner learns to turn his desire from possessions, power or position to God.
Gluttony:
In Anime : Gluttony dies being devoured by (being others food) Pride.
Punishment as in religious books : The gluttonous are purged by abstaining from any food or drink (Cantos XXII through XXIV).
Here, the soul's desire to eat a forbidden fruit causes its shade to starve.
To sharpen the pains of hunger, the former gluttons on this terrace are forced to pass by cascades of cool water without stopping to drink.
Lust:
In Anime : In anime Lust dies at hands of Roy Mustang being burned to death.
Punishment as in religious books : The lustful are purged by burning in an immense wall of flames (Cantos XXV through XXVII).
All of those who committed sexual sins, both heterosexual and homosexual, are purified by the fire.
Excessive sexual desire misdirects ones love from God.

I whole heartily promote this anime to everyone. This anime is a must watch, storyline, backgrund scores everything is so carefully chosen and directed that it interests the viewer. Majority of movies doesn't even come closure to standards of FMA brotherhood.
Truth is what gives one the most fitting form of despair to insure them not to become conceited.
